SAD: 5 Men Shot and Set Ablaze Inside a Car in Philippi East, Cape Town, See What Happened
Cape Town, South Africa – A brutal attack in Philippi East, Cape Town, on Friday night left five men dead after they were shot and set ablaze inside a vehicle, Western Cape police confirmed.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, initial reports suggest that the victims were inside their car in the Better Life area when four armed assailants approached them. The attackers robbed the men, shot them, and then set the vehicle on fire.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the victims, but they are believed to be between the ages of 20 and 30. Investigators are currently gathering evidence, and police have not ruled out any possible motives for the attack.
“The motive for the incident is the subject of the police investigation that is currently underway,” Potelwa stated. The police have urged anyone with information about the crime to contact Captain Andre Lotter at 079 894 1547.
A Surge in Gun Violence in Cape Town
The tragic incident in Philippi East follows a wave of violent shootings across Cape Town earlier in the week, which left three people dead and three others wounded in separate attacks in Ravensmead, Belhar, and Mitchells Plain.
In Ravensmead on Wednesday, police discovered the body of a man inside a white container, riddled with multiple gunshot wounds. Two other individuals were found injured at the scene.
On the same day, a 34-year-old man was fatally shot on Robert Sobukwe Drive, near Holy Cross and the Belhar graveyard.
In Mitchells Plain, a shooting on Tuesday night at around 22:00 on Bellingham Street in Westridge claimed one life, while another victim was hospitalised.
Police suspect that gang activity may be behind some of these recent killings. However, no official connections have been made between the incidents.

The rising number of shootings has sparked renewed concerns over gang-related violence and crime in Cape Town’s most vulnerable communities. Authorities continue to investigate these attacks and have called on the public to come forward with any information that could help bring the perpetrators to justice.
